In a nutshell
Same year, same Apple Intelligence, and closer on chips than the names suggest. The Pro's extras are the ones you can see and feel: a 6.3-inch 120Hz always-on screen, a 5x telephoto, a 48MP ultrawide, USB 3 speeds and a titanium frame. It's also 29g heavier.
The iPhone 16 suits most people. It covers most of what the Pro does day to day, cost £200 less at launch for 128GB and sits in a lighter body. The 16 Pro suits you if you take a lot of photos of faraway things, shoot 4K at 120fps, or have used a 120Hz screen and can't go back.

Both are IP68 and should get updates for the same length of time (est.). The Pro swaps aluminium for titanium.

Software support:Same 2024 launch, so expect iOS updates until about 2031 on both (est.).
Water and dust:IP68 on both. No winner here.
